Musician Abu Araki Abdelraheem and Other Civilians Killed by Mortar in Al Shajara

Musician Abu Araki Abdelrahim, a member of the popular Sudanese music group, Igd Al Jalad, has been killed after a mortar hit Al Hammadab Mosque in Al Shajara neighbourhood in Khartoum on 23 August 2027.

Other casualties have been reported including of women and children.

Born in Al Shajara in 1962, Abu Araki is a printing technician by profession, but leaves behind a rich music legacy as a member of various music groups in Sudan including Selah Al Qawmiya and Selah Al Mudariaat until he joined Igd Al Jalad in 1990.

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been targeted a key military base, Armoured Corps, in Al Shajara for four consecutive day. Civilians have been fleeing Al Shajara to neighbouring areas for safety. The RSF reportedly took control of Al Yarmouk military plant in El Al Shajara in early June.

Airstrikes, artillery shelling, and ground battles further include eastern and central Omdurman and southern part of Khartoum North. 

The fighting – concentrated in Khartoum and Darfur – between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) began on 15 April 2023 has killed more than 3,900 people, according to the NGO ACLED, and has displaced more than 3.3 mn, according to the UN. At least 229 people are missing – locals and foreigners alike.

Other well-known Sudanese figures who have fell victim of the ongoing brutal war include singer Shaden Gardood and actress Asia Abdelmajid.

Many took to social media to mourn the loss of Abu Araki Abdelraheem and other civilians who have been affected. Some have also called for the war to end so no further innocent civilian lives are taken.
