On this day, Africans Rising hopes to rally both financial and material resources to support Sudanese nationals and refugees. In addition, they urge African governments and the African Union (AU) to convene and put a final stop to this deadly war.
War in Sudan erupted in 15 April 2023 between Sudan the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). At least 10,000 people have been killed and more than 7 million have been displaced. At least 3 million people have been internally displaced, and at least 4 million have fled the country to neighbouring countries such as Egypt, Chad, South Sudan and Ethiopia. Those still in Sudan are struggling with a lack of electricity, food and water.
In preparation for the event, Africans Rising is encouraging the public to spread the word by sharing a picture online with the hashtags #StopSudanWar, #IamTheSudanRevolution, and #SudanDay. Users may also create a 10-second video to raise awareness. In addition, Africans Rising invite the public to organise and register events in support of Sudan Solidarity Day.
