Sudan Reports 15 New COVID-19 Cases; 107 Total Cases and 12 Deaths

The Federal Ministry of Health has reported 15 new COVID-19 cases in Sudan on Tuesday, 21 April 2020, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 107. No new deaths have been reported. The total number of deaths remains unchanged at 12.

According to the ministry, all of the reported new cases are from Khartoum state. There are 87 active cases.

Sudan has launched a lockdown for three weeks in the capital city of Khartoum, which began on Saturday, 18 April 2020. It allows people to move from 8 am to 1 pm to get their daily supplies. However, majority of the private and public sectors are closed for three weeks with the exception of those in the healthcare, and food and beverage sectors.

The Federal Ministry of Health recently launched a website covid19sd.info dedicated to sharing statistics and latest information on COVID-19 cases in Sudan.

The ministry stressed the importance of citizens committing to and applying preventive measures and reporting suspected cases. To answer all questions related to COVID-19, a government-sponsored call centre has been established for all residents of Sudan, operating 24/7. Call centre: 221 (To report cases within Khartoum) or 9090 (To report cases outside of Khartoum).
