The Federal Ministry of Health recently launched a website covid19sd.info dedicated to sharing statistics and latest information on COVID-19 cases in Sudan.
South Sudan recently reported its sixth case. Since last month, South Sudan stepped up measures to arrest the spread of the illness, temporarily shutting schools and universities, barring sports and there public events, and telling citizens to observe social distancing.
Sudan’s capital Khartoum is currently on a three-week lockdown, which began on 18 April 2020. It allows people to move from 8 am to 1 pm to get their daily supplies. However, majority of the private and public sectors are closed for three weeks with the exception of those in the healthcare, and food and beverage sectors.
The ministry stressed the importance of citizens committing to and applying preventive measures and reporting suspected cases. To answer all questions related to COVID-19, a government-sponsored call centre has been established for all residents of Sudan, operating 24/7. Call centre: 221 or 9090.
