The Best of the Matalib Challenge
A new and original song by music artist Sammany Hajo, “Matalib”, is inspiring Sudanese music artists in Sudan and abroad to cover the song, each bringing their own style to it as part of the Matalib Challenge.
After seeing the positive response the song received, Hajo launched the Matalib Challenge, encouraging singers, beat makers and other music artists to cover the song.

The challenge kicked off on 21 May with dozens of videos of musicians covering the song, appearing on social media specifically Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag #matalibchallenge.
“Matalib” is a song inspired by the ongoing Sudan uprising, which began in December 2018 as thousands of protesters took to the streets of Sudan, calling for the downfall of former Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir and his regime. Thousands of protesters have been occupying the streets in front of the headquarters of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since 6 April in a mass sit-in known as Al Qeyada, which led to the overthrow of Sudanese former President Omar Al Bashir by the military on 11 April. Demonstrators continue the mass sit-in, demanding a full civilian government, which is what the song “Matalib” specifically addresses.
