Sudan Mourns the Death of TV Cameraman Hatim Mamon

On Wednesday, 4 September, the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate announced the death of Sudanese TV cameraman Hatim Mamon, who passed away on Tuesday, 3 September in Cairo, Egypt after succumbing to his wounds as a result of a drone attack that targeted the Jebeit Military Institute and camp last year.

On 31 July 2023, Mamon was covering the visit of the de facto ruler and Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah Al Burhan to the Jebeit Military Institute and camp in the Red Sea State for the celebration of the graduation of batches from the Sudanese military, air and naval colleges, killing of a number of people, including Mamon, officers and students from the military institute and camp. Since the attack, Mamon has been receiving treatment in Cairo.

Mamon worked in several media institutions, including the Sudania 24 (S24) channel. According to the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, Mamon was a hardworking young man. He covered and documented important events, including the revolution of 2019 that led to the overthrow of former Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir in April 2019. In addition, he is known for taking the best drone photography in Sudan.

Many took to social media to grieve his loss, including well-known journalists and filmmakers.
