On the evening of Friday, 17 April 2020, the Federal Ministry of Health reported one new COVID-19 case and one new death in Sudan. In a matter of hours, in the early morning of Saturday, 18 April 2020, the ministry has reported 30 new additional COVID-19 cases and four new additional deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Sudan to 66 and the total number of deaths to 10.

This is the highest recorded number of reported cases in a single day in Sudan. According to the Federal Ministry of Health, 27 of the cases are from Khartoum from the seven localities of the state, and among them are foreigners. The remaining three cases are from other states; two of which are from White Nile State and one from El Gezira State. In total, 61 of the cases are from Khartoum, five from River Nile State and one from El Gezira State.
The Federal Ministry of Health commends the efforts of all health personnel and all components of Sudanese society for their heroic efforts nationwide.
Sudan has launched a complete lockdown for three weeks in the capital city of Khartoum, starting today, Saturday, 18 April 2020. Majority of the private and public sectors will close for three weeks with the exception of those in the healthcare, and food and beverage sectors.
