On Saturday, 25 April 2020, the Federal Ministry of Health has reported 39 new COVID-19 cases and one new death, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 213 and the total number of deaths to 17.

This is the highest recorded number of reported cases in a single day in Sudan. The ministry also reported 19 recoveries. Out of the 213 cases, 201 are from Khartoum State, four from El Gezira State, three from White Nile State, two from Gadarif State, one from Red Sea State and one from Central Darfur State.

The Federal Ministry of Health recently launched a website covid19sd.info dedicated to sharing statistics and latest information on COVID-19 cases in Sudan.

South Sudan has confirmed its fifth case on 23 April 2020. Since last month, South Sudan stepped up measures to arrest the spread of the illness, temporarily shutting schools and universities, barring sports and there public events, and telling citizens to observe social distancing.

Sudan’s capital Khartoum is currently on a three-week lockdown, which began on 18 April 2020. It allows people to move from 8 am to 1 pm to get their daily supplies. However, majority of the private and public sectors are closed for three weeks with the exception of those in the healthcare, and food and beverage sectors.

The ministry stressed the importance of citizens committing to and applying preventive measures and reporting suspected cases. To answer all questions related to COVID-19, a government-sponsored call centre has been established for all residents of Sudan, operating 24/7. Call centre: 221 or 9090.
