Sudan Reports 90 New COVID-19 Cases; 9,663 Total Cases and 604 Deaths

The Federal Ministry of Health has reported 90 new COVID-19 cases and two new deaths on Tuesday, 30 June 2020, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Sudan to 9,663 and the total number of deaths to 604.

The ministry also reported 18 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,624.

Sudan is currently under partial lockdown until further notice.

According to the ministry, out of the 90 newly reported cases, 44 are from Khartoum, 26 from the River Nile, 10 from Kassala, four from El Gezira, four from the Red Sea, and two from the White Nile. The two newly reported deaths are from El Gezira.

Out of the total 9,663 positive cases in Sudan, 7,078 are from Khartoum, 927 from El Gezira, 249 from El Gadarif, 188 from Sennar, 179 from North Kordofan, 172 from the Red Sea, 152 from the White Nile, 140 from North Darfur, 133 from the River Nile, 126 from Kassala, 92 from Ash Shamaliyah, 54 from West Kordofan, 38 from South Darfur, 32 from West Darfur, 27 from the Blue Nile, 21 from East Darfur, 13 from South Kordofan and five from Central Darfur. As of 9 May, all of Sudan’s 18 states have reported COVID-19 cases.

A partial lockdown in Sudan began on 18 April 2020 in the capital city, Khartoum. On 24 April, Sudan has extended the lockdown to other states including South Darfur, North Darfur, El Gadarif and Red Sea. The partial lockdown has been continuously extended.

The Federal Ministry of Health launched a website covid19sd.info dedicated to sharing statistics and latest information on COVID-19 cases in Sudan.

The ministry stressed the importance of citizens committing to and applying preventive measures and reporting suspected cases. To answer all questions related to COVID-19, a government-sponsored call centre has been established for all residents of Sudan, operating 24/7. Call centre: 221 or 9090.
