Tirhal Launches Intercity Bus Transportation and HELP Services

Tirhal, one of Sudan’s leading ride-hailing platforms, has launched an intercity bus transportation service from Khartoum to Port Sudan, Wadi Halfa and Dongola cities in Al Shamaliya State (Northern State) in Sudan, and Aswan, Egypt, starting 18 May 2023.

The service is to help people in Khartoum flee from the war between the country’s army known as Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by the de facto head of state Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Al Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary force led by the de facto deputy head of state General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti). Clashes between the two forces began on 15 April 2023 and has since left many casualties and destruction along the way.

The first two buses will depart from Khartoum (Al Siteen St) on 18 May at 9 am. One is heading to Port Sudan and the other is heading to Wadi Halfa at the price of SDG130,000 per person.

Ticket prices range from SDG45,000 (USD74.9) to SDG130,000 (USD216.5) per person. Advanced booking is required with at least 50% of the price to be paid prior to the trip. Booking requests and registration can be made through WhatsApp at https://wa.me/message/BK2QDUZJZ65GE1.

According to Tirhal, prices and destinations will be updated on Facebook and WhatsApp daily, depending on the safety, security and economic conditions.

Tirhal has also announced the launch of HELP on 26 April 2023, which is a free service, run by volunteer drivers to serve their community by transferring people to/from hospitals and distress areas to their families and other relatives within Khartoum free-of-charge.

More than 500 people have been killed and more than 3,000 people have been injured in the war, according to the latest reports in mid-April 2023. However, figures are expected to be much higher. More than 100,000 people have been displaced in and outside of Sudan.
