December 2018 marked the beginning of the Sudan uprising or revolution with anti-government protests breaking out across the country, calling for the downfall of President Omar Al Bashir and his regime.
As peaceful demonstrations flooded the streets during the day, wedding ceremonies took place during the night. However, the chants of the Sudan uprising or revolution are still heard at night during weddings as videos surfaced on social media, showing newly-weds as well as their wedding guests chanting popular anti-government slogans.

Some Twitter users have applauded the move.
This is a Wedding in #Sudan. After the celebrations ended, the attendance started chanting anti regime slogans. Even the biggest events in their lives can’t make the people of Sudan forget about the cause. We are revolting everywhere & at all times.#SudanUprising#تسقط_بس https://t.co/tcE2cbL7me — Wa’el ✌🏿تسقط بس (@WailJ) 12 January 2019

December also marks the beginning of wedding season in Sudan, taking place from December to February during the pleasant winter weather. The ongoing protests of the Sudan uprising have not deterred wedding season.
Shortages and steep increase in prices of basic commodities such as bread and fuel triggered the protests, which erupted on 19 December 2018. Thousands have taken to the streets of Sudan, demanding an end to Al Bashir’s 30-year military dictatorship.
Peaceful demonstrations were met with tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition. Reports say at least 50 have been killed during clashes with riot police. In addition, at least 800 protesters have been detained by security forces. Regardless, the protests continue.
