On the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2025, Girlboss – a women’s platform with over 2 million followers – published ‘8 Trailblazing Refugee Women to Watch,’ featuring Sudanese poet and activist Emi Mahmoud and South Sudanese public speaker Mary Maker.
Both Mahmoud and Maker are refugees and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. Mahmoud is a World Champion Poet, while Maker is an actor, writer, and refugee education activist.
