COVID-19 Cases in Sudan Rise to 5

Sudan’s Health Ministry announced two new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, 28 March 2020, increasing the total amount of confirmed cases in Sudan to five.

According to the ministry, the two new patients are Sudanese citizens who came back from foreign countries last week.

Two new cases had been tested positive for Convid19 in Khartoum, Sudan late night of Friday 27 March. Both of them came from foreign countries, one from France and the other from UAE.

There are reports of people who’ve recently returned to Sudan, refusing to quarantine. These include 140 students who’ve returned to Sudan from the UAE where they have been in quarantine for 25 days. They were evacuated from Wuhan, China, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, along with other Arab students in the first week of March.

World Health Organisation (WHO) has listed Sudan as a risk for a pandemic spread due to a lack of preparatory procedures and health facilities.  

In an attempt to stop the spread of the COVID-19, a curfew from 8 pm to 6 am has been enforced in Sudan since 24 March 2020. Any local long-distance bus trips have stopped across the country since 26 March 2020.

In addition, the government closed kindergartens, religious schools, universities and schools for one month and banned public gatherings.

Sudan stopped visa issuance and flight services to eight countries, including Egypt and Italy. Bus trips to and from Egypt have also been suspended.
