For their June 2024 issue, GQ Middle East partnered with 20 members of Sudan’s creative community, who in the eyes of GQ Middle East are driving change and bringing attention to Sudan. Shooting GQ Middle East‘s cover story “For Sudan” is the Ghanaian-Russian artist and photographer Liz Johnson Artur.
‘We hope this issue serves as a catalyst to understand the war, appreciate Sudan’s rich cultural heritage, and hear its contemporary voices. To save Sudan is to save ourselves,’ stated GQ Middle East.

GQ Middle East‘s “For Sudan” issue features sisters and musicians Hiba and Mai Elgizouli; Nawar Kamal, founder of NK Handmade Jewellery; Hadeel Osman, award winning creative director and sustainable fashion consultant; and many more. The issue also includes a poem by Sudanese-American poet Safia Elhillo called ‘The Unforgettable Victims of Sudan’s “Forgotten War”’.
GQ Middle East is the ultimate men’s fashion, sports and culture guide, covering Arab and global trends. Although this is GQ Middle East first cover story on Sudan, the magazine has previously she slight on Sudan and featured many Sudanese personalities many times, including journalist Yousra Elbagir, and singer and poet Mustafa The Poet.
‘Celebrating the spirit of Sudan, this month’s GQ Middle East cover story illuminates the resilience and diversity of the Sudanese people amid ongoing conflict. Since war erupted in April 2023, displacing over eight million and causing immense suffering ever since, media coverage has been scarce, so much so that the lack of coverage of Sudan in the global media could be mistaken that the situation was improving,’ stated GQ Middle East on its social media.
‘Captured through the lens of Ghanaian-Russian artist Liz Johnson Artur, Artur’s profound dedication to documenting the African diaspora brings this crucial narrative to the forefront, revealing the strength and beauty of those often overlooked. Featuring over 20 members of Sudan’s creative community, her images in this issue showcase the power of unity, hope, and culture,’ added GQ Middle East.
