South Sudan Almost Broke History in Pre-Game Against the US Ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics

The US came from 16 points down to avoid one of the biggest shocks in basketball history in a dramatic 101-100 victory over South Sudan at the USA Basketball Showcase in London’s O2 Arena.

LeBron James saved the US from what would have been a stunning loss, scoring 25 points, including the game-winning basket in the final seconds as Team USA rallies from 16 down.

South Sudan, which is about to play in the Paris 2024 Olympics for the first time, led for more than half the game and had a chance to win at the end. However, Carlik Jones’ runner off the glass missed with about four seconds left.

Team USA, which is hoping to earn a fifth straight Olympic gold medal in Paris, is looking especially rattled against an unexpectedly wily South Sudan, which is ranked 33rd in the world.

South Sudan will compete in the men’s Olympic basketball tournament for the first time in history when they take to the court at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The USA and South Sudan will face each other at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which is set to take place from 26 July to 11 August, in Group C on 31 July.

Many basketball professionals and enthusiasts, and South Sudanese nationals took to social media to celebrate and commend the South Sudanese team’s spectacular game against the US.
