The Federal Ministry of Health has reported 164 new COVID-19 cases and eight new deaths on Thursday, 18 June 2020, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Sudan to 8,580 and the total number of deaths to 521.
The ministry also reported 121 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,325.
On 1 June, the Sovereign Council extended the partial lockdown imposed in Khartoum until 18 June 2020. On 14 June, Sudan announced that it will keep its airports closed to international and internal scheduled commercial flights for another two weeks until 28 June.

According to the ministry, out of the 164 newly reported cases, 107 are from Khartoum, 15 from the River Nile, nine from North Kordofan, seven from El Gezira, seven from El Gadarif, six from Sennar, five from Ash Shamaliyah, three from the White Nile, two from West Kordofan, two from the Blue Nile, and one from South Kordofan. Out of the eight newly reported deaths, four from El Gezira, two from Khartoum, one from Central Darfur, and one from El Gadarif.
Out of the total 8,580 positive cases in Sudan, 6,499 are from Khartoum, 766 from El Gezira, 231 from El Gadarif, 168 from Sennar, 167 from North Kordofan, 128 from North Darfur, 131 from the White Nile, 106 from the River Nile, 98 from the Red Sea, 78 from Kassala, 48 from Ash Shamaliyah, 38 from South Darfur, 34 from West Kordofan, 28 from West Darfur, 24 from the Blue Nile, 20 from East Darfur, 11 from South Kordofan and five from Central Darfur. As of 9 May, all of Sudan’s 18 states have reported COVID-19 cases.

A three-week lockdown was imposed on Khartoum on 18 April 2020. Acting as a curfew the lockdown allows people to move from 8 am to 1 pm to get their daily supplies. On 24 April, Sudan has extended the lockdown to other states including South Darfur, North Darfur, El Gadarif and Red Sea.
On 8 May, the Sudanese government announced that the lockdown in Khartoum will extend for 10 more days. On 18 May, Sudan has announced that the lockdown will be extended by an additional two weeks from 19 May. On 1 June, the partial lockdown has been further extended to 18 June.
The Federal Ministry of Health launched a website covid19sd.info dedicated to sharing statistics and latest information on COVID-19 cases in Sudan.
The ministry stressed the importance of citizens committing to and applying preventive measures and reporting suspected cases. To answer all questions related to COVID-19, a government-sponsored call centre has been established for all residents of Sudan, operating 24/7. Call centre: 221 or 9090.
