Sudan Reports 87 New COVID-19 Cases; 10,084 Total Cases and 636 Deaths

The Federal Ministry of Health has reported 87 new COVID-19 cases and 14 new deaths on 5 July 2020, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in Sudan to 10,084 and the total number of deaths to 636.

The ministry also reported 40 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,074.

On Tuesday, 7 July 2020, Sudan announced easing of partial lockdown and gradual return for work and movement as of 8 July. Sudan has been under partial lockdown since 18 April 2020.

According to the ministry, out of the 87 newly reported cases, 59 are from Khartoum, 12 from El Gezira, 10 from Ash Shamaliyah, two from the White Nile, two from the River Nile, one from West Darfur and one from West Kordofan. Out of the 14 newly reported deaths, nine are from the River Nile, three from El Gezira, one from Khartoum, and one from Kassala.

Out of the total 10,084 positive cases in Sudan, 7,318 are from Khartoum, 975 from El Gezira, 251 from El Gadarif, 226 from the River Nile, 195 from Sennar, 185 from the Red Sea, 183 from North Kordofan, 164 from the White Nile, 142 from North Darfur, 123 from Kassala, 121 from Ash Shamaliyah, 62 from West Kordofan, 38 from South Darfur, 33 from West Darfur, 27 from the Blue Nile, 21 from East Darfur, 15 from South Kordofan and five from Central Darfur. As of 9 May, all of Sudan’s 18 states have reported COVID-19 cases.

The ministry stressed the importance of citizens committing to and applying preventive measures and reporting suspected cases. To answer all questions related to COVID-19, a government-sponsored call centre has been established for all residents of Sudan, operating 24/7. Call centre: 221 or 9090.
