Bono Cinemas: The First International Cinema in Sudan Officially Opens

Bono Cinema, the first international cinema in Sudan, has opened at The International Nile Club on Friday, 13 May 2022, marked by a ribbon cutting, cut by Sudanese director Saeed Hamid.

Bono Cinema is not the first cinema in Sudan. There are two other cinemas in Sudan; however, they do not show the latest international movies, according to their international release dates. Bono Cinema aims to screen exclusive Box Office movies, which are unavailable online.

The cinema includes one movie theatre, which seats at least 300 people. The first row of seats are exclusive red cinema seating recliners.

The black and red movie theatre will screen movies only at two separate times: 6 pm and 9 pm. Bono Cinema will announce a third movie screening time at a later stage.

The movies currently showing at Bono Cinema are Memory (English; Cast: Liam Neeson, Guy Pearce, and Monica Bellucci), The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (English; Cast: Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Tiffany Hadish) and The Spider (Arabic; Cast: Ahmed El Saka, Mona Zaki, Reem Mostafa).

There are three ranges of ticket prices: Regular SDG7,500, VIP SDG10,000, and VVIP SDG15,000. Tickets to Bono Cinema can be purchased at entry to The International Nile Club; however, ensure to enter from the western gate of the club.

The opening of the cinema was first announced in April 2022 where those who got a sneak peek of the new cinema shared their pictures on social media.

Many have celebrated the opening of the cinema including the award-winning Sudanese producer and director Amjad Abu Alala, who became internationally known for his award-winning first feature film, You Will Die at 20.

According to Sudan Cinemas, a Twitter account that specialises in sharing news about Sudanese cinema especially the latest news on Bono Cinema, the new cinema plans to expand to Khartoum North and Omdurman in 2023.
