Rapper Bas Releases Music Video for New Song “Khartoum” Featuring Adekunle Gold

Sudanese-American rapper Bas has released his new song “Khartoum” ft Nigerian singer-songwriter Adekunle Gold with a music video on 24 October 2023.

The music video begins with the words, ‘We only talk about real shit when we’re ****** up’. Bas raps about the war in Sudan while showing videos of his last visit to the country in December 2022 along with visuals of his family and childhood in Sudan. He addresses the lack of media coverage and public outcry to the war in Sudan. The short music video ends a sound byte of Sudanese-British journalist and writer Yousra ElBagir, reporting, ‘Thousands killed, over five million displaced and many more trapped in Khartoum and cities across Sudan with little access to basic necessities. This war is a battle for power, and the country’s army said it would only last a few days but it’s now been raging for months.’

On 15 October 2023, Sudan marked since months of the war in Sudan, which broke out on 15 April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by the de facto ruler of Sudan General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by the leader of the RSF, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti).

At least 9,000 people have been killed and more than 7 million have been displaced. At least 3 million people have been internally displaced, and at least 4 million have fled the country to neighbouring countries such as Egypt, Chad, South Sudan and Ethiopia.

Born on 27 May 1987, Abbas Hamad, popularly known as Bas, is signed to American rapper J. Cole’s Dreamville Records via Interscope Records. His first studio album Last Winter, was released in 2014, followed by his second studio album, Too High to Riot, which was released in 2016. Bas’ third album, Milky Way, was released in 2018.
