South Sudan COVID-19 Cases Rise to 49

The Ministry of Health of South Sudan has reported three new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, 3 March 2020, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 49.

The ministry also reported the recovery of two patients, who are the third and fourth cases reported in April 2020. No deaths have been reported to date.

Patients are quarantined at Dr John Garang Infectious Disease Center in Juba and at the UN facility in Torit.

Prior to reporting its first COVID-19 case last month, South Sudan had already declared a lockdown with a ban on international flights. In addition, prior to South Sudan reporting its first case, the US government has donated USD8 million to South Sudan to help prevent the coronavirus pandemic from reaching the country.

The ministry is working closely with WHO South Sudan to screen and test all truck drivers and assistants entering in the border town of Nimule to ensure timely detection, investigation and prompt isolation of cases.

The government has been urging all residents to adhere to the guidelines in preventing the spread of COVID-19, in addition to observing high standards of hygiene and avoiding human contact.

The Ministry Of Health Call Center is now active. Any suspected COVID-19 cases can call 6666.
