The Sudanese Music Artists Who’ve Been Hosted on COLORS

Dutch-Sudanese singer and songwriter Gaidaa and British-Nigerian artist Bellah have come together for a very special A COLORS show performance of their new collaborative single, “As You Are”. The track was developed during COLORS’ first ever writing camp in Paris, France in 2022.

This is Gaidaa’s third appearance and performance on COLORS.

If you’re on YouTube, often listening to music, you would have come across COLORS where music artists are hosted to perform their song of their own on a hanging microphone with a vibrant colour donning the background.

Commonly hosting new and emerging talents, COLORS has hosted well-known music artists such as Jorja Smith, Daniel Caesar, HER, Mahalia and more.

COLORSXSTUDIOS is a unique aesthetic music platform showcasing exceptional talent from around the globe. COLORS focuses on the most distinctive new artists and original sounds in an increasingly fragmented and saturated scene. All COLORS shows seek to provide clear, minimalistic stage that shines a spotlight on the artists, giving them the opportunity to present their music without distraction.

In 2019, during the Sudanese revolution, COLORSXSTUDIOS presented a project exploring the role that music and visual art culture plays in relation to the campaign for global equality, human rights and democracy. Focusing on Sudan, the project showcased music from Sudan and diaspora as a medium through which to raise awareness on the political situation in Sudan.

Across multiple episodes, a selection of Sudanese artists, featuring musician Sammany Hajo, rapper Flippter and singer Gaidaa shared their perspectives through music performances. All of COLORS Sudan-focused performances feature a dark blue backdrop, which was used in #BlueforSudan campaign and also known as the #MattarBlue.

Recently, British-Sudanese singer and songwriter Elmiene became the fourth artist of Sudanese origin to perform A COLORS SHOW.

Sammany Hajo

The first artist to appear on COLORS is Qatar-based Sudanese artist and producer Sammany Hajo. On 26 July 2019, on his A COLORS SHOW, Hajo performed emotive rendition of “Matalib” (“Demands”), a song inspired by the ongoing revolution in Sudan. Hajo wears a traditional black jalabiya while playing the guitar.

Flipper

On 30 July 2019, COLORS released a politically charged performance of a previously unreleased single, “BLUE”, by well-known Sudanese rapper Flippter who is based between Sudan and Saudi Arabia. He has released hit songs such as “Shafata”, “Gorasa”, and featured in YouTuber Maha AJ’s hit song, “Salimmik – A Love Letter to Sudan” and AlSarah’s “Farasha“.

Gaidaa

On 2 August 2019, COLORS released Gaidaa’s first performance on the show. At the time, the Dutch-Sudanese singer became popular after performing in Dutch-Armenian record producer, singer and DJ Full Crate’s hit single, “A Storm On A Summers Day”. She wore what looks like a white Sudanese toub.

A few years later, Gaidaa returned on COLORS for a COLORS ENCORE session, performing her single “Let Me” on 22 March 2021.

Ermine

On 13 February 2023, British-Sudanese soul singer and songwriter Elmiene shared an exclusive unplugged version of his latest single, “Endless No Mores”, donning his natural curly afro with a comb and custom kaftan.
